Restaurant Radio interviews Guy Fieri at Johnny Garlic's

Restaurant Radio is interviewing Guy Fieri and everyone from his restaurant, Johnny Garlic's in Santa Rosa, CA, today, October 2, 2010.

You can follow @restaurantradio on Twitter, find them on Facebook, or visit their website at www.restaurantradio.tv.

Restaurant Radio, with Dane Neal and Tom Reboletti based from Chicago, IL, airs each weekend on stations nationwide from 5-7 CST and online at www.560WIND.com and www.RadioAmerica.org.

"The nation's number one radio show covering the people, places and top personalities of America's food scene!"

Northeast Flavor Magazine also had a recent interview with Guy Fieri. Two of my favorite questions:
"How do you pick the places you’ll visit for Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives?"
Guy Fieri: There’s a lot of preparation that goes into that. We scout locations for Triple D anywhere from one-and-a-half years to two years out. We try to visit each location several times before we actually film. We can’t just pop in off the street when we’re filming—there are like 15 people involved, plus we have a crew to haul the car. It’s a big deal. Then, when a show is in production, I may be traveling from New England to New Orleans to Seattle, as I did this time around. It’s crazy! As for how we pick, we get calls, letters, and e-mails constantly from folks recommending these places.

"We understand you leave your mark, literally, at these restaurants after you’ve filmed there. What do you do? How did this start?"

Fieri: I love spray paint! Early on, some of the owners asked me to sign something in their restaurant, to show I’d been there. I said, “I’ll sign the wall!” And I did—I did a caricature of me, with the spiky hair, and signed my name. Well, according to the crew, things got out of hand, and next thing you knew I was leaving these giant drawings and using up like six cans of spray paint, so they reined me in. Now I have a stencil of my drawing, which I spray and sign, and it’s a modest one foot by one foot.

Guy also commented on his performance at the Celebrity All-Star Baseball Game this summer. For the full interview, click here.

Guy Fieri's knives now at Dillard's, more to come

We first heard of Guy Fieri's association with Ergo Chef knives in April of 2009. Two months later, the announcement was made that Guy's company, Knuckle Sandwich, designed a set of two knives with Ergo Chef, released in August of 2009 - a chef's knife, "The Big Stick," and utility knife, "The Dragon Dagger."

In March of 2010, two more knives were added to the set - a santoku blade, "The Chopper" and a paring knife, "The Lil' Guy."

Dillard's 310 locations are now carrying Guy Fieri's four Knuckle Sandwich knives in their stores, and Bed Bath & Beyond Online is carrying Guy's line plus all of Ergo Chef's Pro-Series Knives.

Visit your local Dillard's store and ask about the Ergo Chef / Knuckle Sandwich line of knives, or visit them online at www.dillards.com.

*Update* Guy Fieri is scheduled to make an appearance at Dillard's near Fort Worth, TX, on Friday, November 5, 2010. (source)

Mike Staib, VP of cutlery sales and marketing at Ergo Chef, LLC., recently shared with us that a few additions will be made to the line, new products ready for release in the coming months.

"Steak knives have been a long development process and manufacturing process," Staib wrote. "An average product takes from 6 months at best up to 1 year to produce from the point of having a final design."

The new Knuckle Sandwich steak knives are elegantly designed with Guy Fieri's star logo along an all-black handle. The steak knives will be available in a 4-piece set for $65.00. Mike Staib promises, "these are serious durable steak knives!"

Also a new 17-slot knife block will be added to the collection. "The Battle Station Block" is uniquely designed to hold necessary culinary tools for any great chef or home cook - a meat thermometer and a zester/grater or full-sized Microplane®.

The Battle Station Block also holds 5 kitchen knives, 8 steak knives, a pair of kitchen scissors, an oval sharpening steel or round honing steel.

The steak knives and knife block will be available for puchase in the 2nd week of November, 2010. Limited quantities for the Holidays! To find out more, visit www.ergochef.com, www.Foodnetworkstore.com, www.cooking.com and www.legourmetchef.com.

What's coming next down the Ergo Chef / Knuckle Sandwich chute? Staib clued us in. Notice that The Battle Station Block has "one slot for Guy’s new 6.5-inch Meat Cleaver, coming out February 2011. ... It’s nicknamed 'The Beast.'”

Sorry, no pictures are available yet! But fans can get a sneak peak of "The Beast" on the new season episodes of Guy’s Big Bite this fall and winter. Watch for The Beast!
