Reactions from the RITZ Cracker semi-finalists

Ten top recipes have been chosen in the Guy Fieri / RITZ Cracker Recipe Challenge. I reached out to as many Semi-Finalists as I could (respecting those with restricted privacy settings) and asked about their thoughts on being in the Top Ten. Here are their responses!

By Linda
Hi Dora! Love the work you've done with the blog. This is my first recipe contest and was flabbergasted when was chosen as a Top Ten semi-finalist. My 13 y.o. daughter helped develop and prepare the "Italian Wedding Snackers" - this has been a truly empowering experience for us both. I think the BEST thing Guy has done with his career is encouraging people to cook with kids. Congratulations to the rest of the competitors and best of luck in all that you do.

I am very excited to be a semi-finalist in the Ritz recipe challenge. With so many great recipes entered into the contest, just making it into the semi-finals is quite the accomplishment, and I am just happy to be included with all the other great recipes. Good luck to all the other recipes vying for votes!

I'm a huge fan of Guy Fieri and Ritz crackers and to be chosen as a semi-finalist was a dream come true! To be chosen out of the thousand was a real honor and a huge suprise! I would just like to thank Ritz and Guy Fieri for giving me this opportunity to represent them. I'm just so excited about this contest and I hope I make it to the top three. Also if you're taking turns on voting for the finalists please make sure you vote for my My baby bluegrass burgoo bites with sweet corn jicama chow-chow.

I enter a lot of cooking contests; I usually have at least a dozen entries out to different contests at a time. The Ritz contest is a biggie: big promotion with a big name chef and big prizes. Ritz crackers are such a basic staple, you could almost go in any direction with your recipe. I got inspired by a batch of Millionaire Shortbreads that a co-worker brought in one day. I reacted very predictably; I jumped up and down and yelled. The cash prize would be cool, but I've never been to California. That would be a memorable trip. Wish me luck!

I am so excited and really hope my Buffalo Shrimp Boats can sail to California!! "These shrimp boats are a little trouble but well worth the effort. The boats are made of cheese and ritz crackers and come out nice and crispy and will melt in your mouth. The filling is spicy and creamy and then topped off with a great crumb mixture."

Thanks for asking me to be included in your blog for Guy Fieri. Out of all the chef's who were competing in The Next Food Network's Star, Guy Fieri has been the top of my favorites. He is so down to earth, enthusiastic, and a true foodie! It's an honor to have my Hawaiian bread pudding recipe deemed as a semi-finalist in the RITZ recipe challenge. ... Everyone knows about the famous RITZ "Mock Apple Pie" recipe and I needed to come up with a dessert unique and tasty enough to rival it. ... If I can get enough votes to make it to the final phase of judging, I know my Hawaiian bread pudding has the potential to be the Grand Prize winner!

It’s a huge thrill to be chosen as a semi-finalist in the Ritz Recipe Challenge! Guy Fieri’s shout out for over-the-top recipes inspired me to create my Peppercorn-Crusted Steakhouse Sliders. Ritz Crackers have been a staple in my family since I was a young girl. And when I was in high school and college, my friends and I always kept a box or two in our cars as go-to road food! To be chosen as a semi-finalist in this contest brings my love affair with Ritz Crackers full circle. Congratulations to all of the finalists – some fantastic recipes! – but I sure hope it’s me flying out to CA! And thank you Ritz for giving me this opportunity in your contest!

If you facebook, please vote for your favorite Guy-inspired RITZ Cracker recipe every day through Thursday, April 7, 2011. "Like" www.facebook.com/ritzcrackers and visit http://apps.facebook.com/ritzgfieri to vote. The Top Three recipes move on to the final judging with Guy Fieri and a team of Kraft Foods appointed judges. Best of luck to one and all!

New shoes, a Bumblebee and a first pitch

I don't typically repeat Guy Fieri's tweets, but these past few days have seen a newsy @ChefGuyFieri Twitter account.

We first heard about a line of Guy Fieri Globe shoes in October, 2010. Looks like the mock-up is done, @ChefGuyFieri - "Chillin' with Sherwood @globeskate checkin' out my new signature model kix...comin soon"

Guy Fieri had a briefphone chat with radio personality Mancow, based in Chicago. Here's Guy on Cooking Bacon on the Mancow Experience. Click here to listen.

On Friday, April 1, Guy participated in a Food Network upfront in Chicago. He, Vanilla Ice, Mancow and ?? had dinner that evening. @ChefGuyFieri - "Headin’ outta Chi Town after a big night with the Food Network Krew and my homie, Rob Van Winkle (@vanillaice)…Vanilla Ice!"

On Saturday, April 2, Kent Porter of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat caught Guy Fieri throwing the first pitch at a Little League Game. "I was totally out of position for the pitch, but shot it anyway," Porter wrote. "After a strike to home plate, Fieri ran the outer perimeter of the diamond and high- fived players on the field." Not only that, but he was wearing the new shoes!

And very exciting: Guy has some new heavy metal to add to his collection of cars. @ChefGuyFieri - "Bitchin' Camaro...thanks to my bruthas at Chevy! First yellow conv off tha line!"

The Twitterverse is asking, when will we see the Bumblebee on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives! Is it time for an updated set of wheels for the show?

If you are alone, you can think about such a kind of simple recipes which can make very easily. Someone wants his morning breakfast would be very testy and making fun. Eggs can be cooking various ways. A traditional French recipe for frying eggs tells you to gently poach them, no more than two at a time, in two ounces/55 grams or more of butter. DDD chef, Guy Fieri help celebrate Gulf Coast

Members of the Coastal Resiliency Coalition (CRC) and tourism leaders from the Gulf Shores and Orange Beach area have partnered to mark the Gulf Coast's progress one year after the Deepwater Horizon explosion with a 500-person seated dinner directly on the white sand beaches.

BaldwinCountyNow.com reports, “Supper on the Sand: A Celebration of the Gulf” to be April 17, 2011, will feature a spectacular menu showcasing Gulf seafood and local produce presented by chefs including local food celebrities Lucy Buffett and “Panini Pete” Blohme and the staff and students of Faulkner State Community College Culinary Institute.

Guy Fieri is lending his support to this project as the celebrity host chef: "It's an honor to come down to Alabama's Gulf Coast and participate in an event that celebrates this community. Shooting Diners, Drive-ins & Dives over the years, I've spent time with the people and sampled the area's food, and that is one spot-on combination."

Panini Pete, known to fans of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives for his Fairhope, AL sandwich shop and bakery, wrote to us, "It's a really positive event about the community coming together. Were not done with this oil spill and its effects, but were all working hard to repair the damages to the Gulf and it's beaches as well as the Seafood and toursim industry down here."

A family-style Seafood Feast is planned right on the sand. Not a glitz and glamor gig but a meal with a message. "Sustainability and resilience," Pete wrote. "We will be hosting alot of Politicians, industry leaders that can help with the seafood industry, meadia and sports celebrities as well as some Food Network personalities, and many local heroes who helped with everything from clean-up to moving turtle nests!

"Guy agreed to come down and host the event to help bring attention to our situation. He's filming in Jersey Saturday Night and again Monday morning in VA. So for him to squeeze this in AT NO CHARGE I might add!!! Is fantastic! He helps a lot of great causes when he can, and he sure helps out his friends too!"

The dinner, a by-invitation only event, will be held at the Gulf State Park beachside pavilion. Click here for the full article.

Panini Pete will be assisting on Guy Fieri's Food Tour, as he did in 2009. Pete, our hats off to you and your great work!
